|| How well are you prepared for your trip into the mountains - not only physically but also psychologically and skills-wise? Many people venture into the mountains without understanding the nature of what they are embarking on. They struggle to navigate in reasonably good consitions and absolutely cannot navigate in poor visibility, are not equipped to deal with severe weather and do not know how to negotiate obstacles safely.
This course is intended for mountain walkers who are already active in the mountains but wish to increase their safety margin by learning more about the safety aspects of mountain walking.
This course lasts 7 days.
Reasonable experience in mountain walking - ideally 40 days or more. Students for this course should also have their own mountain walking equipment such as backpacks, sleeping bags, tents, etc.
This is a South African MDT accredited course. While it is not a SAQA accredited course it does address the requirements for SAQA 9288 in order to facilitate an RPL assessment. It does not include an MDT or a SAQA assessment, which must be done separately.
