Description  Learn how to climb sport routes. (Sport routes are those routes which are protected by pre-placed bolts).

Prerequisites
All you need for this course is a willingness to face heights and very small amount of agility - it`s all in the mind

Duration
This course lasts 2 days. It is normally done over a weekend.

Availability And Numbers
This course is only available part-time with a minimum of 2 students and a maximum of 6.

Course Content

The course covers :
  • The climbing environment (terminology, styles of climbing)
  • Equipment selection, use, care and storage
  • Knots
  • Belaying
  • Movement on rock
  • Seconding traditionally protected as well as sport (bolted) routes
  • Leading sport climbs
  • Essential emergency procedures

    Optional (Further trad climbing)
  • Belaying with double ropes
  • Removing protection
  • Attaching to stances (anchor systems)
  • Detaching from and disassembling stances (anchor systems)
  • Abseiling to retreat from rock climbs
  • Simple ascending of a rope
