Activity   Abseiling & Climbing
Description  Assessment of skills for MDT Abseil Supervisor and/or SAQA 9283: Provide a guided single-pitch abseiling experience of less than 60m.

Candidates are assessed for competence in terms of the MDT`s Abseil Supervisor (Short Drop) scheme and the NQF`s SAQA 9283. Additional assessment can be done for the long-drop abseil (and SAQA 9282: Provide a guided single-pitch abseiling experience of more than 60m but less than 150m)

Prerequisites:
Candidates for this assessment MUST read and understand the MDT and NQF standards and ensure that they are able to perform the skills as ALL skills WILL be assessed.

Candidates must also be in possession of a minimum of a level II first-aid certificate.

Format:
Candidates will do the following:
  • Sit a written test. Oral tests can be arranged for people with problems.
  • Set up and abseil in a man-made environment.
  • Set up and abseil in a natural environment environment.
  • Demonstrate personal competence in abseiling using more than one device.
  • Equip, check and belay clients.
  • Solve common problems.
